Essential Oils
Essential Oils for Horses and Humans
When horses in the wild need support during times of illnesses, diseases, injuries and even emotional stress, they have the opportunity, if they choose, to seek out medicinal plants that they may find in their natural environment. With domestication, they no longer have this innate ability to do so.
Essential oils are nothing more than “the blood of the plant”. When you break a plant, you will see a form of liquid or signs of moisture. This is what essentials oils are made of and why horses are so responsive to them. This is also what keeps the plant healthy by protecting it from diseases, damage and predators, such as insects and even animals. Essential oils provide the same benefits to horses and people the same way “the blood of the plant” provides support for the plant itself.
Time For Me To Fly utilizes the healing power of essential oils through aromatherapy (inhalation), topically and through ingestion. Essential oils have been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. They are an all natural alternative solution that are obtained from botanicals through the distillation process.
Horse owners, riders, and every barn should purpose to have oils available at all times! The oils work the same for horses as it does humans. Here are just two of my “must haves” when working with horses and they should be yours too! Di-Gize is a blend of oils that may be effective in the support of the digestion system during times of colic, digestion upset and overall daily health of the stomach and digestive tract. This oil can simply be rubbed on your horse’s gums or added to their feed ration, as well as rubbed on the abdomen. In times of colic, using one drop per 100 pounds of body weight while waiting for your veterinarian can be great support for your horse during this difficult time. Valor is another wonderful blend of oils that gives your horse the support they need to balance emotions, as horses truly are a very emotional animal, supports courage and confidence and brings relaxation to the body and mind. Placing a few drops on his poll, sacrum and bulbs of feet may help your horse with ever changing events of their day.
Time For Me To Fly utilizes the healing power of essential oils through aromatherapy and the Equine Raindrop Technique. Essential oils have been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. Here are a few of my suggested protocols that you might find your horse could benefit from:
HAPPY HORSE
Unhappy horses tend to have weaker immune systems making them more susceptible to diseases
and illnesses, as well as reluctance to perform.
STRESS AWAY- Promotes relaxation and supports the release of tension in the body
LEMON- Promotes the reduction of stress and supports relaxation in times of anxiety
To improve your horse’s happiness, just place
three drops on horse’s poll and rub in forelock!
MARE STARE REDUCER
Mares, like humans, have hormonal changes that can cause irritability.
CLARY SAGE- Supports hormonal imbalance and brings calmness to the central nervous system.
GERANIUM- Promotes feelings of calmness and relaxation and aids in balancing emotions.
LAVENDER- Provides a general sense of well-being and focus.
By placing three drops Clary Sage and three drops of Geranium on the area of the lumbar on both sides, and three drops of Lavender on the poll will help your horse through rocky times of hormonal changes.
THRUSH AWAY
Tea Tree- Promotes cleansing and purity, as well as supports healthy tissue regeneration.
Thieves- This is Young Living’s one-of-a-kind blend of five different essential oils that support the body’s system to fight off harmful fungus and bacteria.
Add 10 drops Tea Tree and 10 drops Thieves in a four ounce glass spray bottle and top with fractionated coconut oil. Spray on frog and all crevices of the hoof. Hooves may be packed with cotton balls and covered with a boot overnight, if needed.
SEASONAL SUPPORT
Seasonal issues can occur all through the year! Many horses are very sensitive to things in their hay, grass and air. This protocol can be a great support in keeping your horse’s eyes and airways happy!
LEMON- Promotes clean air, supports the body’s ability in fighting inflammation and congestion.
LAVENDER- Promotes stress relief in the body and supports the cardiovascular system.
PEPPERMINT- Supports the body in fighting inflammation and promotes clear breathing.
Place two drops of each in your palms, rub together and rub on horse’s forehead, jaws and under the jaws. This can also be placed in your horses feed or mouth, when mixed with a carrier oil, such as grape seed oil, almond oil and the likes.
RELAXED RIDE
Who doesn’t want a relaxed ride for their horse and themselves?
PEACE & CALMING- This blend will have you and your horse hooked! It simply promotes “peace and calming” in a way you may have never experienced!
Place three drops on the poll and rub down onto forelock. Add a few drops to the rider’s wrists for an even more balanced and relaxed ride!
