Equine Assisted Services
Helping Horses & People
Helping Horses & People In Equine-Assisted Services- It’s a win-win!
Equine-Assisted Services encompasses a range of treatments that involve activities with horses and other equines to promote human physical and mental health.
As a Masterson Method Equine Specialist (MMES), I’m trained to teach program volunteers, staff, and qualified clients/participants how to practice some of the very basic principles of The Masterson Method using the Bladder Meridian and other light-touch techniques.
This is what Jim Masterson has to say about how this therapy helps horses as well: “Horses that serve in equine-assisted services or therapy programs can be challenged in different ways than performance horses, both physically and psychologically. This application of The Masterson Method® is focused entirely on these horses and their needs.”
“In addition to benefiting horses, we have found that doing this bodywork has a meaningful and often powerful impact on the people who are practicing it. We recognize how subtle changes in your body impacts the horse’s body, and how sensitive horses are to touch. Those practicing this bodywork on horses can improve their connection with the horse, develop greater self-awareness, and deepen their quiet, mindful presence. This work can also take the pressure off those who feel exhausted from “everyone trying to fix” them, as the focus is on helping the horse.”
The clients I serve and may benefit from these sessions are those that may experience:
✓ Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
✓ Attention Deficit Disorder
✓ Non-verbal communicator
✓ Depression
✓ Addiction
✓ Anxiety
✓ Eating disorders
✓ Communication disorders
✓ Behavioral issues
✓ Family conflicts
✓ Marital conflicts
BENEFITS TO THE PARTICIPANT
The gentle, tactile, horse-focused, intuitive and interactive nature of this form of bodywork creates many possibilities for connection, communication and caring, including:
✓ An opportunity to interact with the horse, especially for those who are unable to ride
✓ A feeling of calmness and connection
✓ A mindful experience
✓ A focus on subtle nonverbal equine responses
✓ An opportunity to give selflessly
✓ A sense of contribution
✓ An avenue to healthy conversations
The mindfulness and connection with the horse achieved through bodywork can be utilized as an equine-assisted activity. In addition to doing the bodywork with horses, I partner with an equine-assisted therapist or coach to teach clients basic Masterson Method® techniques to “give the gift of bodywork” with therapy horses. “It’s a win, win!”
I’d be happy to work with your Equine Assisted Therapy program in bringing The Masterson Method to you and the clients you serve and the horses that serve them!
